Aspects of Russian-Finnish cooperation in the field of Maritime navigation in the Arctic region were discussed during the Russian-Finnish joint Commission on Maritime navigation, held in Helsinki, told RIA Novosti on Monday, Deputy Director of the Department of the Finnish Ministry of transport Paivi Anticainen.
"We held a very constructive meeting of the Commission, where we exchanged views on cooperation in the field of Maritime navigation in the Arctic and exchanged views on the protection of the marine environment of the Baltic sea," she said.
They also discussed the implementation of a joint project to harmonize the implementation of the Polar code, reduce nitrogen emissions from ships in the Baltic sea, control the sulfur content in marine fuel.
Yuri Kostin, Director of the Department of state policy in the field of sea and river transport of the Ministry of transport of Russia, acted as co-Chairman from the Russian side. The Russian delegation included representatives of the Ministry of transport of Russia, organizations subordinated to Rosmorrechflot, the Russian Maritime register of shipping, the Russian chamber of shipping. Finland was represented by the Ministry of transport and the transport and communications Agency.
The next meeting of the Russian-Finnish mixed Commission on Maritime navigation will be held in 2020 in the Russian Federation.
